Learning Resources

Resources designed to enrich knowledge and support student learning.

About Learning Resources from NBME

Historically, NBME's contributions within the medical education community have focused on funding research in assessment and supporting new and established faculty through grants and fellowships.

In 2020, as part of our commitment to offer more support for students on their journey through medical school, we provided free and accessible learning resources. These included complimentary NBME® Self-Assessments between April and September of 2020 and the Unlocking Assessment video series.

We are committed to expanding these contributions in the future, with a particular emphasis on providing support for socio-economically disadvantaged students.
NBME Self-Assessments

Complimentary NBME Self-Assessments

NBME Self-Assessments are designed to help students evaluate their readiness for the USMLE® or an NBME Subject Exam, while gaining a familiarity with NBME-style questions.

During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, many students were concerned about not having enough study materials to enrich their knowledge and prepare for exams while social distancing. NBME offered a number of complimentary Self-Assessment forms to help meet this need.

Between April 3, 2020 and September 30, 2020, students could order seven free forms through their MyNBME account and access them until December 31, 2020. More than 400,000 complimentary forms were ordered during this period. NBME remains committed to meeting the educational needs of medical students on their journey.
Unlocking Assessment

Unlocking Assessment Series

The Unlocking Assessment series is a collection of videos that provide insight into how NBME questions are created and used to measure clinical knowledge.

Each episode focuses on a different patient scenario and includes an interactive discussion led by physicians who play a key role in developing the content on NBME exams. By following along with a panel of medical students, viewers can learn how their peers approach NBME questions and pick up new strategies to use when taking an exam.
